1. Introduction
Welcome to Don't Miss Birthdays ("we," "our," or "us"). We are committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring the security of your personal information. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application Don't Miss Birthdays (the "App"), available on the Apple App Store.
By downloading, installing, or using the App, you agree to the terms of this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with the terms of this Privacy Policy, please do not access or use the App.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 User-Provided Data
The App allows you to create profiles for people whose birthdays and anniversaries you want to track. This data includes:
- Names: First name, last name, and optional nickname of the people you add
- Birth dates: Date of birth for each profile
- Marriage dates: Optional marriage/anniversary dates
- Gender: Gender information (required for each profile)
- Contact info: Optional phone number and email address
- Health info: Optional blood type
- Notification preferences: Global alert settings (timing and hour) and per-profile toggle to enable or disable birthday and marriage alerts
This information is stored locally on your device and, if you enable iCloud sync, in your personal iCloud account.
2.2 Information We Do NOT Collect
We want to be transparent about the data we do not collect:
- Your personal identifiers (your own name, email address, phone number)
- Account credentials (we do not require account creation)
- Location data
- Contact lists or address book data
- Browsing history or search queries
- Financial or payment information
3. How We Use Your Information
The information you provide is used solely for the following purposes:
- Core Functionality: To display birthday and anniversary countdowns, ages, and upcoming events.
- Notifications: To send local notifications reminding you of upcoming birthdays and anniversaries based on your preferences.
- Statistics: To calculate and display aggregate statistics (monthly events, gender breakdown, married ratio, age ranges, birth day distribution) entirely on-device.
- Cross-Device Sync: If enabled, to synchronize your profiles across your Apple devices via iCloud.
4. Data Storage and Security
4.1 Local Storage
All user data is stored locally on your device using Apple's secure data storage mechanisms. This data is protected by your device's security features, including encryption and passcode/biometric protection.
4.2 iCloud Storage
If you enable iCloud sync in your device settings, your profiles will be stored in your personal iCloud account. This synchronization is:
- Managed entirely by Apple's iCloud infrastructure
- Encrypted in transit and at rest
- Subject to Apple's Privacy Policy and security measures
- Accessible only through devices signed in to your Apple ID
We do not have access to your iCloud data. You can disable iCloud sync at any time in your device's Settings app.
4.3 Data Retention
Your data is retained on your device for as long as the App is installed. When you delete the App, all locally stored data is permanently removed. iCloud data can be managed through your iCloud settings.
5. Third-Party Services
5.1 Advertising (Google AdMob)
The App displays advertisements provided by Google AdMob. Two ad formats are used:
- Interstitial ads: full-screen ads shown occasionally after certain in-app actions.
- App Open ads: full-screen ads shown when you bring the App back from the background to the foreground. These are frequency-capped: at least 4 hours pass between two App Open displays. The cap is delivered via Firebase Remote Config and may be tuned over time.
AdMob may collect and use certain data to serve personalized or non-personalized ads, including:
- Device information (device model, OS version)
- Advertising identifier (IDFA), subject to your App Tracking Transparency (ATT) choice
- General interaction data with ads
For users in Europe (GDPR): A Google User Messaging Platform (UMP) consent form is shown on first launch, allowing you to choose your ad preferences. You can update your consent at any time from Settings > Ad Preferences within the App.
For all users: Apple's App Tracking Transparency (ATT) prompt may appear to ask whether you allow tracking. If you choose "Ask App Not to Track," AdMob will serve non-personalized ads only. You can change this setting at any time in iOS Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking.
For more information, see Google's Privacy Policy.
5.2 Firebase (Analytics, Crashlytics, Remote Config)
The App uses three Firebase services from Google to help us measure usage anonymously, fix bugs, and tune ad parameters:
- Firebase Analytics, for anonymous usage analytics. Reports aggregate, non-identifying signals such as screen views and event counts (for example, how often the calendar is opened). No personal data is sent. No names, birthdays, marriage dates, phone numbers, emails, blood types, or profile content ever leave your device. Analytics data is associated with an Apple-controlled identifier (IDFA) only when you have allowed tracking via App Tracking Transparency; otherwise it relies on a non-persistent app-instance identifier.
- Firebase Crashlytics, for diagnostic crash reports. If the App crashes, Crashlytics automatically uploads a stack trace, the device model, OS version, and the App version so we can fix the bug. No profile data is included. Crashlytics may use a randomly generated installation UUID to deduplicate reports.
- Firebase Remote Config, for ad parameter delivery. Used to fetch ad-frequency parameters (such as the App Open ad cooldown) without shipping a new App version. No user data is sent to Remote Config; the App only reads values from the server.
These Firebase services do not receive your profiles, names, birthdays, marriage dates, contacts, or any field you store in the App.
Consent: In Europe (GDPR/EEA/UK), Firebase Analytics events and Crashlytics uploads are governed by the Google UMP consent form shown on first launch. You can update your choice at any time from Settings > Ad Preferences. Outside the EEA, your App Tracking Transparency (ATT) decision controls whether the IDFA is associated with analytics events. You can change ATT at any time from iOS Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking.
For more information, see Firebase Privacy and Google's Privacy Policy.
5.3 Apple Services
The App integrates with the following Apple services:
- CloudKit (iCloud): Used for optional cross-device synchronization. Data is stored in your personal iCloud account.
- UserNotifications: Used to deliver local birthday and anniversary reminders. All notification scheduling occurs on-device.
6. App Tracking Transparency (ATT)
In compliance with Apple's App Tracking Transparency framework, the App may present a prompt asking for your permission to access the device's advertising identifier (IDFA) for personalized advertising. You have full control:
- Allow Tracking: AdMob may use your IDFA to serve more relevant ads
- Ask App Not to Track: AdMob will serve non-personalized ads only
Your choice does not affect the App's functionality. All features work the same regardless of your tracking preference.
7. Data Sharing and Disclosure
We do not sell, trade, rent, or otherwise share your personal profile data with third parties. The only scenarios where data might be accessed by third parties:
- Google AdMob: As described above, AdMob may collect device-level data for advertising purposes, subject to your ATT consent.
- Firebase (Google): Anonymous analytics events and diagnostic crash reports are sent to Firebase as described in section 5.2. No profile data is shared.
- Apple Services: Apple may process data through its iCloud services according to Apple's Privacy Policy.
- Legal Requirements: We may be required to disclose information if required by law, though we note that we do not possess any user profile data on our servers to disclose.
8. Your Rights and Choices
8.1 Access and Control
You have complete control over your data:
- View Data: All your profiles are visible within the App.
- Edit Data: You can modify any profile at any time.
- Delete Data: You can delete individual profiles or all data through the App.
- Export Data: You can export all your profiles to JSON format for backup or portability.
8.2 Notification Permissions
You can manage notification access at any time through your device's Settings:
- Settings > Notifications > Don't Miss Birthdays
- Toggle notifications on or off, customize alert style, sounds, and badges
8.3 iCloud Sync
To disable iCloud synchronization:
- Settings > [Your Name] > iCloud > Apps Using iCloud > Don't Miss Birthdays > Toggle Off
8.4 Data Deletion
To completely remove all data:
- Delete all profiles within the App, or
- Delete the App from your device (this removes all local data)
- If iCloud sync was enabled, manage iCloud data through Settings > [Your Name] > iCloud > Manage Storage
9. Children's Privacy
The App is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. The profiles you create in the App are about other people (whose birthdays you track) and are stored only on your device and iCloud. If you are a parent or guardian and have concerns, please contact us.
10. International Users
The App is available worldwide through the Apple App Store. Since all profile data processing occurs locally on your device, there is no international transfer of personal data to our servers. iCloud data transfers are governed by Apple's policies and your iCloud settings.
10.1 European Users (GDPR)
For users in the European Economic Area (EEA), we note that:
- We process minimal data necessary for the App's functionality (data minimization principle)
- Processing is based on your consent (by using the App) and legitimate interests (providing the service)
- You have rights to access, rectify, erase, restrict processing, data portability, and object to processing
- Since profile data is stored locally, you exercise these rights directly through the App and device settings
- AdMob advertising, Firebase Analytics, and Firebase Crashlytics are subject to your GDPR consent (via the Google UMP consent form on first launch) and to your ATT consent choice. You can update these choices at any time from Settings > Ad Preferences in the App and from iOS Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking.
10.2 California Users (CCPA)
For California residents, we confirm that:
- We do not sell personal information
- We do not collect personal information as defined by CCPA beyond what is described in this policy
- You have the right to know, delete, and opt-out of the sale of personal information (though we do not sell data)
11. Security Measures
We implement appropriate technical measures to protect your information:
- All profile data is stored locally using Apple's secure storage APIs
- No profile data is transmitted to external servers. AdMob receives only device-level advertising data, and Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics receive only anonymous usage and diagnostic signals (never your profiles)
- iCloud data is encrypted by Apple in transit and at rest
However, no method of electronic storage is 100% secure. We encourage you to use device passcodes and biometric authentication to protect your device.
12. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by:
- Updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this policy
- Posting the new Privacy Policy on this page
- For significant changes, providing notice through the App or App Store update notes
We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes. Your continued use of the App after any modifications indicates your acceptance of the updated Privacy Policy.
13. Contact Us
If you have any questions, concerns, or requests regarding this Privacy Policy or our privacy practices, please contact us at:
We will respond to your inquiry within 30 days.
14. Consent
By using Don't Miss Birthdays, you consent to the collection and use of information as described in this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree to this policy, please do not use the App.
Privacy Summary
In plain language: Don't Miss Birthdays stores your birthday and anniversary data locally on your device and optionally in your personal iCloud account. We do not have servers and cannot access your profile data. The App displays ads via Google AdMob (including occasional interstitial ads and full-screen App Open ads when you return to the App, capped to at most one every 4 hours), and uses Firebase Analytics for anonymous usage measurement, Firebase Crashlytics for diagnostic crash reports, and Firebase Remote Config for ad parameter delivery. None of these services receive your profile data. You control personalization through the GDPR consent form (Europe) and Apple's App Tracking Transparency. You can export, edit, or delete all your data at any time. You're in control.
