How to Use Don't Miss Birthdays

A complete guide to tracking birthdays and anniversaries, setting up notifications, comparing ages, browsing wishes, and managing your data.

Adding a Profile

Add the people you care about and never forget their special days.

How to add a new profile

Tap the + button on the Home screen. Fill in the person's first name and last name, then select their date of birth using the date picker. You can also choose their gender.

Optionally, add a marriage date if you want to track their wedding anniversary. You can also add a photo from your photo library to personalize the profile card.

Tap Save to create the profile. It will appear on your Home screen with the days remaining until their next birthday and their current age.

How to edit or delete a profile

Tap on any profile card to open the detail view. From there, tap Edit to modify the name, dates, gender, or photo. You can also delete the profile from the detail view.

On the Home screen, you can also swipe left on a profile card to reveal the delete option.

Leap year birthdays (February 29)

If someone is born on February 29, the app correctly handles their birthday. In non-leap years, their birthday countdown and notifications will be based on the closest appropriate date. The age calculation always remains accurate.

Setting Up Notifications

Get reminded at exactly the right time so you never miss an important date.

How to configure notification timing

Go to Settings > Alerts to configure when you want to receive reminders. You can choose to be notified:

  • On the day of the birthday or anniversary
  • Days before (e.g., 1 day, 2 days, 3 days before)
  • Weeks before (e.g., 1 week, 2 weeks before)
  • A month before

You can enable multiple notification timings at once. For example, get notified 1 week before and again on the day itself.

Notification permissions

When you first enable notifications, iOS will ask for permission to send you alerts. Tap Allow to enable birthday and anniversary reminders.

If you accidentally denied the permission, go to iOS Settings > Notifications > Don't Miss Birthdays and enable notifications manually.

Notification quota

iOS limits the number of scheduled local notifications to 64. The Statistics section on the Home screen shows your current notification quota usage so you can manage it. If you have many profiles with multiple notification timings, you may approach this limit.

Comparing Ages

See the exact age difference between any two people in your list.

How to compare two profiles

Open the Comparison tab from the bottom navigation. Select two profiles from your list. The app will display the exact age difference in years, months, and days.

This is useful for seeing how far apart siblings, friends, or family members are in age.

Browsing Wishes

Find the perfect birthday or anniversary message to share.

How to browse and share wishes

Open the Wishes tab from the bottom navigation. Browse curated birthday and anniversary wishes organized by category.

Wishes are available in three languages: French, English, and Arabic. Tap any wish to copy it to your clipboard, then paste it into your favorite messaging app (WhatsApp, iMessage, etc.) to send it.

Using the Calendar

See all your events on a monthly calendar view.

How to use the calendar view

Open the Calendar tab to see a monthly view of all birthdays and anniversaries. Days with events are marked with dots.

Tap on any day to see the list of people who have a birthday or anniversary on that date. Navigate between months using the arrows or swipe gestures.

Import and Export

Back up your data or transfer it between devices.

How to export your profiles

Go to Settings > Import/Export and tap Export. All your profiles will be saved as a JSON file that you can store in Files, share via AirDrop, email, or any other method.
